Through our research, tactics, and implementation, we strive to promote civility and civil discourse in society. We observed that public discourse has corroded into unhealthy and destructive interactions. This project, Civility on Cecil, is meant to find possible best practices and solutions for this growing issue.
Our team decided to focus on incivility in the workplace. We see this as an area for improvement that can impact all other areas of life. People typically spend eight hours a day in the workplace. What happens in those eight hours bleeds into daily life.
This site contains information on our project and the research behind it. Through our implementation, we are running a series of events that are detailed below. We also provided a list of resources available for ongoing practice of civility.
"Civility does not...mean the mere outward gentleness of speech cultivated for the occasion, but an inborn gentleness and desire to do the opponent good."
- Mahatma Gandhi
